Richard E. “Rick” Smith is a 1980 graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he received a B.S.B.A., concentrating in the area of Business Communications, with a minor in Business Management. He is a graduate of Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University, where he received his Juris Doctor degree in May, 1991. Rick graduated in the top ten percent of his class, was a member of Law Review and was enrolled on the National Dean’s List. He is listed in the Who’s Who of American Law Students and was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award on both Evidence and Marital Property – an honor bestowed on the student with the highest grade in the class.


Prior to entering law school, Rick was an insurance adjuster and supervisor and has traveled worldwide investigating and adjusting various maritime claims. He has been an Adjunct Instructor at Kilgore College in northeast Texas where he taught business and employment law, including workers’ compensation.


Rick practices in the areas of maritime/offshore personal injury and wrongful death, workers’ compensation, and automobile, truck and boating accidents. He is a licensed attorney in both Texas and Louisiana and has acted as lead counsel in over 50 jury trials and hundreds of administrative hearings.


Rick is admitted to the practice of law in all Louisiana and Texas Courts. He is a member of the  Louisiana State Bar, State Bar of Texas, Louisiana Association for Justice, Injured Workers' Forum and Workers' Injury Law and Advocacy Group.   Rick is also listed in Who’s Who of American Lawyers and has been recognized by The Legal Network as one of the Top Lawyers in Louisiana. He is peer reviewed as highly rated in both legal ability and ethical standards.
